Port Elizabeth is all about beach lifestyle and most of the city’s entertainment happens along the coastline, where chilled sundowners punctuate the end of an outdoorsy day and the night-life vibe is unpretentious and downright friendly.
There are numerous taverns, pubs, cocktail bars and nightclubs: try the Port Elizabeth Shabeen Tour for a vibrant, fun, night-on-the-township experience or the ever-popular The Boardwalk, a dining and entertainment centre, where pubs, clubs and restaurants all sit under one roof.
Dining in Port Elizabeth is surprisingly diverse and restaurants range from trendy beachfront joints and fancy gourmet eateries to local hangouts, takeaways, cafès and pub & grubs. Head towards the coastline or for PE’s city centre and you’ll easily find somewhere to scoff down a meal.
Since Port Elizabeth is known as the water-sport capital of South Africa you just can’t let go to waste all that this friendly beach town has to offer: try diving (there’s a fantastic coral reef or two), yachting, chilled boat cruises, windsurfing and/or adventurous river rafting anything goes as long as it’s on the water.
If your preference is living in the CBD, then staying at South Point’s President House would the best option for you. This being because you would be exposed to a walking distance of a wide range of restaurants situated in the area. This is namely: The Four Cousins and Snoekies which are situated closely to Plein Street. While there is another restaurant at the corner of Spin Street being, The Coffee shop.
If you enjoy Indian cuisines, then Eastern Bazaar provides an abundant variety of such cuisines from Bunny chows, Briyani, Samoosas and Roti to a simple pizza. If you love baked products then Charley’s Bakery will be your best friend. It is easy to spot as it stands out from other buildings with its uniquely brightly coloured building with its main colour being pink.
The President House is not far from Long Street, which is a street known to come to life at night. It offers restaurants like Long Street Café, Neighbourhood, Cappellos, Stones, Mexican and many more.
