Johannesburg
at a Glance

Melville where you party it up all night long as it buzzes 24/7 with a variety of eateries and nightlife spots - mostly on 4th Ave and 7th Str. The friendly neighbourhood also hosts one of Jozi’s biggest student social scenes.

Soweto where the vibrant shebeen scene offers food, drink and music. Not sure where to start, then meet up on famous Vilakazi Street and get in a bit of culture while you’re at it: visit Hector Pietersen Memorial and go from there.

Newtown and the famous Market Theatre have been upgraded offering eclectic culture and entertainment from a large pedestrian-friendly precinct. From theatre to live music, historical culture, good food and drinks... it’s all happening in Newtown.

Yeoville offers a diverse culinary experience: this audaciously loud and culturally varied urban neighbourhood is quite literally bursting at its seams with African food; West, South, North and East Africa are all represented here.

Sandton is the biggest and blingiest ‘burb in all of Jozi’s kingdom. It’s glam and showy and host to some of the city’s hottest nightclubs, cocktail lounges and restaurants.

Rosebank is a hub of multi-culture, representing South Africa’s "rainbow nation" in the truest sense of the word. Great nightclubs, bars and lounges intermingle with eateries and coffee shops galore, plus Rosebank is also home to a large student social scene.

Braamfontein or Braamies, as it’s fondly known, provides a healthy dose of culture: visit Constitution Hill, the majestic Nelson Mandela suspension Bridge ,SBar,The Grove,Lamunu Hotel and a number of inner-city artworks like the massive 5.5 metre tall, 20 ton concrete Eland by artist Clive van den Berg and the Juta Street Tree Sculptures created by artist Claire Regnard. South Point is Braamfontein’s largest property owner and developer, and home to nearly 5,000 students. So, even if you’re not staying with us – or if you’re commuting into Wits – you can still be part of South Point’s Braamies vibe. We invite you to explore our ‘hood, known for its cosy coffee bars, cutting-edge art galleries and a full range of restaurants and cafes, rounded out by a great mix of cutting-edge retail brands from around SA and the world – all within easy walking distance of the Wits campus. Check it out.
