Government introduces a number of new lockdown restrictions
SOUTHPOINT INTRODUCES 9pm TO 4am BUILDING CURFEWS AND TIGHTENS RULES IN LINE WITH NEW GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS
Dear student,
In his national address on Sunday, 12 July 2020, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa introduced a number of new lockdown restrictions to assist the country in its ongoing battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes, among others, the reintroduction of the alcohol ban, the mandatory use of cloth face-masks, and prohibiting family and social visits. South Point has and will continue to enforce all lockdown regulations as well as its House Rules vigilantly. The new lockdown restrictions also include a 9pm to 4am national curfew, which will impact on access, entry to and exit from South Point buildings by its residents and other tenants.
Must-know information around SouthPoint’s 9pm to 4am building curfew policy:
It’s important to note that the Government-imposed 9pm to 4am curfew also applies to SouthPoint’s buildings.
With immediate effect, our buildings will be locked from 9pm every evening and will be re-opened again at 4am every morning. Once doors are locked, students will not be allowed in – or out (without exception).
For any life-threatening emergencies, SouthPoint’s standard emergency evacuation procedures would apply if need be, with emergency exits opened accordingly.
Furthermore, within SouthPoint student residences, students will need to wear masks fully covering their mouths and noses whenever they leave their rooms (i.e. within all shared spaces, including kitchens, passages, laundry areas, etc). By definition, shared spaces are effectively public spaces, and it is important to note that not wearing a mask in public spaces is a criminal offence and therefore could serve as a legitimate basis for the immediate termination of your lease.
