12 March 2021
Dear student,
We have been receiving a lot of queries from students (both returning and new students) in terms of bookings and coming to stay at SouthPoint for the commencement of the 2021 academic year. As home away from home to more than 800 NMU students, SouthPoint was advised by the Off Campus Housing Office (OCHO) that we do not have accreditation for the 2021 academic year on 2 March 2021.
Following this feedback, we have officially submitted an appeal on 11 March 2021 to the Dean of students Mr Luthando Jack, and also cc’d the Director for student housing Mr Mxolisi Ncapayi to appeal the decision.
A detailed project plan has been submitted for consideration, together with supporting documents on how we plan to achieve our compliance with the minimum norms and standards.
Over and above the work that needs to be carried out this year as per our project plan, SouthPoint has already done the following as commitment to complying with the accreditation requirements from NMU;
Purchased additional Microwaves for all Kitchens in all three buildings
Purchased and installed hasp and staple locks for all rooms to allow for safe storage on all personal items.
Additional CCTV has been installed to allow better monitoring of all spaces in the buildings
Upgraded electricals in the kitchens to allow for the extra microwaves
No bookings have been deleted and no evictions have been forced on any student with us while we wait for the outcome on our accreditation appeal. We appeal to all our students to not panic during this time as we are still engaging the University.
Regards,
SouthPoint
