Springleap, which was founded in February 200 to help designers get more exposure, has become a hot little business. Why? Because it's so innovative. This is how is works:
Every 2nd week competitions are held, where graphic designers from all around the globe are given an opportunity to attempt to create the best t-shirt design for the assigned theme.
Over 20 000 registered users vote for the best design, and the winning design is printed as a Springleap t-shirt, then sold online and by vendors in South Africa and beyond our borders, too.
To ensure maximum exposure for the designer, his/her name, along with the name of the design appears on every shirt… hey, but wait, there’s more! In addition to the exposure they also receive R4000 and Springleap throws in a few tees too.
So not only is this super-inventive company the only online t-shirt seller in South Africa, supplying the hottest and most exclusive tees…. but they're a pretty giving bunch, too.
Springleap is an open platform for any company who wishes to use crowd sourcing as a tool to generate products and product ideas. A good example of this would be the Markham competition, which required designers to create an image specifically for the Markham range. The winning design from that competition was stocked and sold in Markham stores, countrywide.
Springleap is constantly coming up with new and exciting competition themes to keep artists, followers and buyers excited and wanting more... and more... and more...
The Springleap tee is a proudly and uniquely South African product. It is a tried and tested, fitted t-shirt of the highest quality material, locally produced and internationally enjoyed.

If you have a shoe fetish then Haus of Society is a name you should be taking note of. It's the new hottie in designer footwear. The launch collection consists of three different styles of shoes; winter pumps, women’s boots and men’s boots.
Designer Jean Lima is the mastermind behind the collection. An avid shoe lover himself, he set out to design shoes that feel as light as air and can be worn with absolutely anything.
The pumps, called Jump, were inspired by ballet shoes and look great with a pair of skinny jeans. Jump comes in six fab colours.
The women’s boot, called Skin for Woman, is handmade from the softest leather and are definitely made for walking.Skin for Woman also comes in 6 striking colours.
The men’s boot, called Skin for Men, was designed exclusively for gay men. Jean Lima says he wanted to create a shoe for men who know how to wear it and have the attitude to match. You will need to be able to strut your stuff if you want to wear a pair of Haus of Society boots.

How's this for super-athletic: Viv Richards is the only person to have played both World Cup Football and World Cup Cricket. He played soccer for Antigua and cricket for the West Indies.

The oldest player to play the World Cup: Cameroon's super-talented Roger Milla, who was 42 when he played his last match against Russia in 1994.

The youngest player to play the World Cup: Northern Ireland's Norman Whiteside, who was just 17 when he took the field against Yugoslavia in 1982.

Shirt swapping was once officially prohibited in 1986 because FIFA did not want players to 'bare their chests' on the field.

The highest attendance at a World Cup match was 199854 at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janerio for the 1950 deciding match between Uraguay and Brazil.

Brazil are the only country to have appeared in every finals; 19 finals tournaments from 1930 to 2010.

Finally, and let's hope it rings true for South Africa, no host country has ever been eliminated in the first round.

What, with Eskom pushing up eletricty costs and the planet needing to conserve energy, gone are the good old days when our heaters could be left on 24/7. Here are some tips to keeping warm while saving on the electricity bill this winter:

  1. Why do you think your mom used to dress you up in layers in winter? Because it keeps you warm, duh! Dressing in layers may be stating the obvious but so many of us forget just how effective it is on those really cold days. Buy leggings and long sleeved vests to wear under all the other layers and feel how well your clothes insulate the heat.
  2. Make sure your wardrobe is well-stocked with socks. When your feet are cold your whole body feels it so wear socks. The thicker the better.
  3. Ensure that your windows are covered with heavy or lined curtains. The fabric helps absorb the cold and insulates windows where cold air may be sneaking in through the cracks.
  4. On sunny days though keep the curtains open and let the suns rays warm up your pad. As soon as the sun goes down draw the curtains closed and keep the warm air in and cold air out.
  5. Change from summery cotton sheets to heavier winter bedding, like soft flannel sheets and a thicker duvet . It's amazing how simply changing your lighter bedding to a heavier variety and then adding an extra blanket makes a massive difference on those cold winter nights.
  6. Drink warm beverages like nutritious soups, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milo... or even better do hot water with a squeeze of lemon and you'll be dosing up against winter colds and flus at the same time as warming up from the inside out. Yes, it costs to boil the kettle but it costs a whole lot less than plugging in a heater for the majority of the day.
  7. Exercise, exercise, exercise and keep fit while creating enough energy inside your body to keep you warm.If exercise just ain't your thing then at the very least keep busy; instead of doing a "spring" clean, do a winter one instead.
  8. Make your kitchen your living area as it generally is the cosiest room simply because of the warmth generated from the oven/stove, kettle and hot water when washing dishes.
  9. Buy a fleecey knee blanket (they're inexpensive and can be purchased in almost every supermarket and homeware store); they're small and light enough to carry with you so that when you're feeling cold you can simply wrap yourself up in it, whether it be in lectures, out socialising or at home.

Phashasha Life will keep bringing you trivia and fun facts throughout the 2010 World Cup and to kick off here are the first five:

In the first ever world cup soccer match, on 13 July 1930, France beat Mexico 4 to 1.

Did you know that South American and European countries have won the World Cup 9 times, plus 9 times respectively? No other continent has produced a World Cup Champion... yet.

No European team has won a World Cup played outside of Europe.

How does it go? There's no such thing as a home advantage. Think again! Out of the 19 World Cups so far, six have been won by the host country.

Bora Milutinovic coached in every tournament between 1986 and 2002. How did he manage to achieve that? Easy he coached for different teams: Mexico, Costa Rica, USA, Nigeria and China.

Stay tuned for part 2...

Check this out! Recently Logitech  commissioned Lightspeed Research to find out just how superstitious and die-hard South African sports really fans are.

To avoid jinxing the game, the results show that sport-loving lads will go to just about any lengths:

65% of male respondents will always sit on the same spot on the sofa to avoid putting a curse on their team.

Men would forsake vanity for their team, with 1 in 10 claiming they would avoid shaving throughout the entire tournament to avoid the jinx actor.

15% will sing the national anthem at the start of every match and just under 1 in 10 (7%) will wear a lucky item of clothing.

The research also showed that when it comes to watching sport on television nothing else matters least of all the furniture:

Men become more than a little accident-prone - when celebrating a goal, a quarter of respondents claimed to have injured themselves or a friend, while 21% have broken a piece of furniture.

During emotional outbursts, over half (53%), have stained the carpet or sofa due to spilling beer and 24% have thrown the remote across the living room.

Finally, if you're hoping to get in any of your own television time during the soccer World Cup this winter be prepared to splash the cash as 58% of men admitted the only way they would be prepared to hand over the remote control during a game is through bribery. According to the survey, it will cost you anywhere between  R1 500 and R 9 000 to put the power back in your hands. But money is not the answer to everything as the men in question were fiercely divided over this issue with 42% of die-hard soccer fans stating that no amount of money would persuade them to give up the remote if their team was playing.

Since it's Mother's Day this month (9 May), we thought we'd feed you this trivia about the momentous day:

Did you know that the woman who started Mother's Day also tried to put a stop to it. Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia filed a lawsuit to try and put an end to Mother's Day because she didn't like the fact that it had become so commercialised. She had hoped that the day would be one of reflection and prayer by families, thanking God for all that mothers had done.

The youngest mother whose history is authenticated is Lina Medina, who delivered her baby by cesarean section in Lima, Peru back in 1939; she was only 5-and-a-half years old.

The oldest Mother recorded to ever give birth was Satyabhama Mahapatra, a retired schoolteacher in India, who, in 2003, became the world's oldest mother when she gave birth to a baby boy at the ripe old age of 65.

The newly revamped Sodastream is not only a totally cool, must-have kitchen item but it is value-for-money and healthier than your shop-bought fizzy drinks.
Take soda for example at more than R10 per two litres, it’s become quite costly. Now if you owned a Sodastream Home Soda Factory not only will it provide you with a wide selection of syrups to choose from - 18 to be exact - but also excellent value for money through its innovative home soda system: it costs just R1.55 to make a litre of Sodastream soda water, compared to as much as the R11.99 it costs to purchase a two-litre soda water product from the store. That’s a 74% cash saving.
When it comes to flavoured fizzy drinks, it only costs R4.04 to make a litre of Sodastream cold drink at home using its Family Favourite and Sugar Free ranges. To buy the same drinks from the shop would cost around R6-50 per litre. Once again you're saving cash.
To add to the range, Sodastream's new Xstream offers a cost-effective alternative to iced tea, isotonic sport drinks and energy drinks: it costs R4.29 per litre to make Sodastream Xstream, compared to the hefty R59.96 per litre it costs to buy a popular energy drink brand from the store; a whopping saving of 93 % per litre.
If you consider all the cash you'll save sipping on Sodastream drinks, it should be a breeze affording the funky Sodastream Value Pack, which costs R299; and the syrups go along way with just one 500ml bottle of syrup making 12 litres of cold drink.
The syrups are healthier than shop-bought drinks, too, since all syrup flavours other than the sugar-free varieties, contain one third the sugar of regular carbonated soft drinks.

Coming soon: Look out for the super-cool Sodastream competition by clicking on "South Point Competitions" and stand the chance of winning a funky limited edition Sodastream cola fountain.

The adorable new shoX speakers from Tevo are nothing to snort about, you hear! Don’t let these cute little piggy-shaped numbers fool you: they provide potent high quality sound and at the same time give you more bacon for your buck.

You can pump up the volume with all three Pigs: The shoX iPig, iPig Mobile and shoX iPiggi come with five fine tuned speakers that produce near perfect sound and put out a heart-pounding 23 watts of refined power. The secret to this impeccable performance is in the spread of speakers: a sub woofer in the tummy for plenty of meaty bass, two mids in each eye to hold the volume and two tweeters under the ears to take care of the high notes… and to adjust the volume, just stroke the cute little ears.

Take your iPig Mobile for walkies as it has a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery and you can carry it in one hand, making it a fabulously portable music companion… and a great fashion accessory, too. Just attach your iPod, MP3/MP4 player, cellphone or computer and blow your buddies away with the super-sonic sound.

And check it out; the shoX iPig and iPig Mobile not only include the docking speakers, input cables and AC/DC adaptors, but also come with free infra-red remotes and iPig cradle removers.

Mobile comes in black and white; iPig in pink, white and black; and iPiggi in pink and white. Prices start at around R799.95.

What better way to swing into 2010 than to be inspired by celeb-ville. Here are three famous quotes from three mega-celebs:

"Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like." - Actor/Singer Will Smith.

"I say luck is when an opportunity comes along and you're prepared for it." - Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington.

"Cheers to a New Year and another chance to get it right." - Talk Show Queen Oprah Winfrey.

Here are 5 tips to not only surviving 2010 but making it a year worth remembering:

1. If you can't live by your resolution don't bother making one - If you seriously want to expend energy thinking up a resolution going into 2010 then make it one that you believe in and live by it each and every day.

2. Be optimistic - Think up a positive mantra to live by in 2010... say it out loud, daily... believe in it and it'll happen.

3. Be authentic - Go into 2010 knowing exactly who you are and what you want from life; all else will follow.

4. Pay it forward - Do something good for someone; you'll be surprised at how fantastic it'll make you feel.

5. Live your dream - No matter how big or small just think of one thing that you've been wanting to do or achieve and set out to make it happen in 2010.

Happy, happy New Year! Go forward and live a phashasha life, fo sho.

You too can turn your space into a trendy little pad by following these simple rules: Keep things light and calm – the eco-friendly thing is seeing neutrals and restful colours, like blues, greys and greens, take centre stage. Mix things up – A fusion of cultural textures and object d’art is super-hot. Be bold - while the primary colours are calm and neutral, warm up your space by accessorizing in bronzes, oranges, reds, berries and golds. Recycle the detail – Furnish using funky recycled or second-hand stuff.
