Rom Com At Toni’s Place

Hilarious comedy will have you in stitches, on Friday 3 September.

Looking for an original and fun night out? Don't miss out on a full-on funny-fest, when hilarious Scottish comic duo Joehl and Jordan Ross (aka, The Evil Twins), get going on stage at Toni's Place (69 Mangold Str, Newton Park) this Friday.
They'll be joined by one of PE’s top blues bands, the Jack Rabbit Slims and some of the coastal town's up-and-coming local comics, who will collaborate with the comedic duo in a jam-packed night of Rom Com entertainment.

Become A Styling Stylista Red-Carpet Reporter

Wanna become a celeb reporter? Enter the audition process to become one, before 30 September. Read on for details...

Softlips, premium lip care brand, has launched a nationwide search for a budding red carpet reporter. Following an open audition process the Softlips Stylista will go behind the scenes at some of the countries top style events to uncover the real people and stories behind the glitz of a celebrity.
The chosen winner will be trained in the art of celebrity reporting and sent with her own web TV crew to cover A-list events from the red carpet and beyond. They will present regular web TV episodes during the summer 2010 party season supported by an extensive marketing campaign to build an audience for the show. To ensure she looks at home amongst the celebrities the Softlips Stylista will also receive a fashion makeover from a selection of YDE Designers, hair styling products from Tony & Guy and FHI Heat and the latest iPhone from Digicape.
To apply for an audition to become the Softlips Stylista, log on to www.softlips.co.za, before 30 September 2010, and follow the instructions on the nomination form. The top five entrants will be flown down to Cape Town in November for a training workshop with a guest celebrity, and a final audition. Based on their natural style, quick witted questions and on-camera performance a final decision will be made.

World Literacy Day celebrated with Wola Nani Charity Book Sale

In recognition of World Literacy Day on Wednesday 8 September, Gardens Shopping Centre will be hosting a five-day charity book sale from Wednesday 8 – Sunday 12 September. Proceeds from the sale will go to support NGO Wola Nani's work with orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).

For readers of all ages there will be a large selection of quality and collectible second-hand books across various genres including: Children’s, Crime Fiction, Non-fiction, Cookery, Africana, Mind Body Spirit, Arts, Classics, Thrillers, Poetry and Plays, Gay, Business, Modern Classics, Humour and Biographies.
In addition, stall convenor Well Read Books will also be offering a wide variety of contemporary, cult and classic DVDs and CDs to cater to the most ardent movie and music-lovers. 

Wola Nani is a non-profit organisation striving to improve the quality of life of those living with HIV and AIDS, especially women, orphans and vulnerable children.  “Our children’s programme has grown substantially over the past year and involves everything from after–school homework support to food parcels.” says Executive   Director Moira Jones.  “We encourage book lovers and collectors to support the work of Wola Nani by visiting our stand at the Garden Shopping Centre”.   
The sale will run upstairs at Gardens Centre from 09:00- 17:00 (Wednesday – Saturday) and from 09:00- 14:00 on Sunday 12 September.

All About Biko

Acclaimed American academic and feminist author Alice Walker, most famous for her novel The Colour Purple, will be in South Africa next month to deliver the Steve Biko Lecture.

Alice Walker, poet, writer, novelist, essayist, anthologist, teacher, editor, publisher and activist, will be part of a gathering of reputable artists at An Evening With Alice Walker discussion at the State Theatre in Pretoria on September 7, where the focus will be placed on Steve Biko.
The artists will include Simphiwe Dana, who recently released a ground-breaking album inspired by Biko, called Bantu Biko Street, more than three years ago.
The family of the late Biko will also attend the State Theatre event.
