Our Vision

“To be South Africa’s largest, leading independent provider of student accommodation outside of the universities themselves.”
In 2003, South Point was born out of a need to provide safe, clean, affordable and convenient student accommodation, filling a gap in the market by offering flats to let in environments conducive to promoting healthy studying. Whereas once your only option, other than university res itself, was poorly maintained yet expensive accommodation, South Point now offers secure, well-positioned buildings in the heart of university communities, nationally. Parents can relax in the knowledge that we promote safe, healthy, study-friendly living because at South Point we believe that is the way to a bright future.
We started out in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, by offering apartment and dormitory-style rentals in a number of desirable buildings within walking distance of the University of Witwatersrand and other educational institutions close to Braamies, like Rosebank College, Damelin, Afda, and the Fashion School. Currently our Braamfontein portfolio provides accommodation to thousands of students and not only that but we have grown some, too, now offering first-class student accommodation in Jozi, Pretoria, PE, Cape Town and Durbs, with flats to let in Bloemfontein in the near future.
South Point has forged strong ties with institutions and people that help make a difference to your lifestyle; from numerous tertiary institutions and bursars to stakeholders, municipalities and local governments. This way we get to provide you with well-managed, convenient, comfortable, clean, safe, secure and affordable flats for rental.
One of South Point’s biggest commitments is to create a sense of community among our students. It is our priority to actively develop and maintain relationships with our students during their stay in our student accommodation. We do this by sponsoring South Point sports teams; hosting parties; offering accommodation bursaries to existing South Point students; and inviting motivational guest speakers to talk about topics that interest our students.
It doesn’t end there as we also provide funding and administrative support to South Point student initiatives. We encourage extra-curricular activities that are constructive, safe and inclusive in nature and have hosted chess clubs, debating societies, prayer groups and art societies in our buildings.
To keep you in the loop we have created the South Point Newsletter, an events’ gig guide called What’s Shaking and Phashasha Life, featuring fun lifestyle tidbits from hot products to relevant advice.

Finally, to promote healthy learning we offer various student internship programmes to students needing to fulfill the practical portion of their academic programme.
What we offer

As South Point’s objective is to create comfortable, convenient living for students we have taken your needs very seriously:
  • Our buildings have been completely revamped into single and double bed units, containing natural light and ventilation.
  • All units are fully furnished.
  • Each student block has its own laundry facilities, recreational and study rooms, plus wireless internet access that is free to all residents.
  • Security is paramount, which is why we provide a 24-hour, state-of-the-art security system and have created house rules that function to give you peace-of-mind.
  • Common areas are cleaned twice a day ensuring tidy environments conducive to studying.
  • South Point’s maintenance team is on the ball and maintenance-related issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
  • Each building has a House Mother or Father, who is available to attend to any emergency 24/7.
  • We always ensure that our accommodation is closely situated to public transport: you can quite literally pop out of your apartment and onto a taxi, bus or train within minutes.
  • Our buildings are mixed gender with guys and girls occupying separate floors.
Did you know?

South Point’s current building refurbishment programme will increase our capacity to 8,500 student beds by the 2010 academic year, nationally, and we want to increase this to 20,000 student beds by 2013. This will go a long way towards entrenching South Point’s position as the leader in student accommodation, private or otherwise.
